IP Policy Statement

ITRI realizes that intellectual property (IP) is the core of a knowledge- based economy. We actively pursue both the generation and deployment of IPs. We are consistently among the top three in Taiwan, and rank in the mid-seventies in the U.S. for patents granted annually. As of year 2008we have over 8,782patents in effect worldwide. Relevant management practices regarding incentives, promotion and enforcement actions are constantly being reviewed for their effectiveness.

We hold classes and workshops, not just to ITRI employees but also for the general public, to promote the awareness about IPs. We also help the government in devising legislative and administrative measures to ensure that Taiwan lives up to the standard expected of a developed country. ITRI is a model in Taiwan in this respect. Our broad technical competence and public trust make us the best, if not unique, choice for this role.

There are many ways that we interact with companies and research organizations. IP issues are involved quite often. Technology Transfer Center (TTC), International Program Center (IPC) or individual research laboratories can all be the window of initial contact. More details on our guidelines and practices can be found in the section of Doing business with ITRI.
